Fishing Tips
It has been my finding that while fishing a lot of places, mainly in the U.S. and the Azores. That if you want to achieve any success you should ask the locals. I have found this to be true off U.S. shores. I state this because, while stationed in Wyoming, they fish a lot for Walleye. According to the locals, you had to have a boat, and that boat had to be rigged for trolling. Well, I didn't have a boat, but did have quite a lot of fishing experience, mostly self taught, by way of the information I found in my monthly subscriptions of fishing and outdoor magazines. With this being the case. I surveyed the area, looking for changes in topography. I found a suitable spot, cast a few sort casts (from the bank). And hit pay dirt! Several locals past by towing their boats to the launch ramps. They all stopped, and would (smurkingly) "having any luck", to which I would reply "some!". Because I had two or three nice fish on my stringer. One of the local gentlemen who had queried me earlier, walked back in my direction, and said "I want to help you, you're not going to catch a thing from the shoreline, you need to have a boat and some minnows!". I replied by pulling my stringer out of the water, asking "Sir, are these not Walleye?". "and I'm using nightcrawlers" Another example is, take a kid fishing ever notice that they seem to catch fish, by not concentrating! They will skip rocks, beat the water with their fishing pole, etc. And still catch fish! To make a long story short, I was never able to fish that spot again, every time I got there after that day there were shoulder to shoulder fisherman in my little spot. Being a new comer with a little basic knowledge, I had taught a community that, hard fast rules aren't always hard or fast! |
